`Tired’ Christiania lodge may get a new

The owners of an Aspen ski lodge that has seen better days are hoping to revive the Christiania Lodge and Chalets.

Preliminary plans to redevelop the cluster of old lodge buildings and chalets at 501 W. Main St. are currently under review by the city’s Historic Preservation Commission.

The proposal will mean the loss of some de facto affordable housing in town – the 25 lodge units are currently rented out to workers and music students. But it will bring one of the town’s venerable ski lodges back into use as condominiums, according to architect David Brown.
