A new Asheville-based bar started by a group of family and friends in 2014 has signed on to bring its newest location to downtown Durham in the spring.
Pour Taproom, which also has locations in Greenville, South Carolina, and in Santa Cruz, California, will be opening a new 2,245-square-foot, pay-by-the-ounce craft beer and wine bar in a retail space at the new Unscripted Hotel on Corcoran Street.
The Unscripted Hotel is the new name for the renovated Jack Tar Hotel that was bought by Colorado-based Austin Lawrence Partners and slated to open in spring 2017. Austin Lawrence Partners is also building the 27-story One City Center office and residential tower across the street from the hotel on Parrish Street.
Nate Tomforde, a co-owner and founder of Pour Taproom, says they hope to have the new Durham taproom open by late spring or early summer. “We’re more like a tasting room than a bar,” he says in explaining the concept. “We don’t make our own beer, and we try to support the local breweries. Pour Taproom will carry about 50 craft beers, ciders and wines on tap. Patrons set up a tab a pour their own brews.”
Pour Taproom is also working on a deal to expand into Wilmington, Tomforde says.
Tiffany Barrier of CBRE-Raleigh represented Austin Lawrence Partners East in the lease negotiations.
